LOG LINE: Because of planet earth’s history of violence, the Federation of Planets delivered a stern warning seventy years ago not to send weapons of mass destruction or explore the universe beyond earths atmosphere. They send an ambassador to obliterate earth from existence, but as he interacts with humans, and examines the world at large, he’s hunted by a hostile government; all of which result in second thoughts about how to complete his mission.
SYNOPSIS: On December 1, while working at the Lowell Observatory in Arizona, CELESTE and MARTY discover a fiery object deep in outer space, racing toward Earth. They alert the Pentagon.
Representing the Federation of Planets, an alien visitor, LAKTU, sneaks past S.C.O.U.T.’s deadly laser beams bent on destroying all interplanetary intruders. On December 24 Laktu lands his invisible craft on The Ellipse, just south of the White House lawn. He pays young ROBBIE Benson, Helen Benson’s grandson, a surprise visit. His mission is to save the Benson family before obliterating planet earth on Christmas day.
Unable to depart immediately because of Robbie’s mother, who is honeymooning with her second husband and is expected to return the following day, killing time, Laktu cruises Washington D.C. with Robbie and his delightful friend, SHAMUL. Bored, Laktu decides to see the city on foot and encounters a variety of characters, sights and scenes that enlighten us to his true character.
TOM STEVENS, JR., assistant Secretary of Defense, in the process of leaving his wife, is sleeping with his young mistress while his volatile, teenage daughter, MIRANDA, is hot after Robbie.
Miranda, suspecting something strange about Laktu, follows him around town and calls her daddy to report a certain odd occurrence. Laktu decides to cash in a diamond at Bleeker’s Jewelry Store when two burglars enter, steal the diamond, rob the store, shoot Mr. Bleeker, and wound Laktu. Miranda’s eyewitness account brings the police to the Benson Bed and Breakfast home.
Robbie tells Miranda the truth, who in turn has promised not to speak a word, but calls her daddy anyway and conveys a convoluted, though very convincing, story about the alien intruder.
On Christmas Eve day, Laktu slips out of his room early, eludes Miranda, and disappears inside his invisible craft. Knocking out all communication services (TV-Radio-Telephone-Internet) around the world for thirty minutes, from 12:00 pm to 12:30 pm, Laktu forces the citizens of Earth to stand still and listen to his speech (spoken in every language simultaneously), which is ignored at first. Unbeknown to Laktu, his spacecraft loses its invisible shield and within minutes following his broadcast the craft is surrounded by thousands of civilians, news coverage and a hostile military.
During his ascension, the craft’s computer halts his escape and forces Laktu to return in order to fulfill his mission to reduce earth to a burned-out cinder. Upon his exit from the craft Laktu, and innocent by-standers, are riddled with bullets by the out-of-control military. Robbie, Shamul, and the world witness the event and are horrified.
Laktu whispers in Robbie’s ear to get, ‘Grandmother.’ Minutes following Laktu’s death three dozen robots exit the craft and annihilate the army by reducing them to a pile of waste by using their laser-beam eye. Out of control, the robots begin their destructive path by first dissolving the White House, with Tom Stevens, Jr. inside, surrounding buildings, automobiles, homes and artillery. Nothing can stop this army of robots.
Robbie and Shamul return to The Ellipse with grandmother who attempts to employ the magical three words to end the annihilation, to no avail. Robbie’s mother and Miranda join them as a robot discovers their presence and attempts to eliminate them. Robbie changes the words to Laktu, Barrada, Niktoe, and saves the day and Washington from further destruction.
An angry mob approaches the craft and the remnant of the army. Robbie takes it upon himself to end the violence by delivering a final speech, while everyone chants, ‘NO MORE WAR’. The craft lifts off, and is joined in outer space by four sister spaceships in the traditional V flight pattern.
